South Korean girl group BLACKPINK, comprising four members — Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa enjoys massive popularity. The girls have given us some ear-pleasing songs to cherish. From How You Like That to Ice Cream, Blankpink’s songs have a separate fanbase. The group was formed by entertainment company, YG Entertainment on August 8, 2016. This year the girl group marked their 7th year anniversary with the entertainment agency. However, for the past few months, BLACKPINK has been making the headlines due to its contract renewal with YG Entertainment. As per South Korean media reports, Jisso, Jennie, and Rose were believed to leave the agency soon. Now, new updates about the contract renewal have come to the fore.

According to a report published by News1 on September 25, BLACKPINK’s Jennie and Jisoo have made a major decision regarding YG Entertainment. They have established their individual agencies, indicating that the duo might not be willing to work under their former company. The reports claimed that Jennie and Jisso are currently discussing matters regarding their group activities with the agency while their solo activities will be overseen by their individual agencies. However, in this context, it is important to note that these are just speculations as nothing has been announced so far.

Replying to the News1 report, YG Entertainment neither confirmed nor dismissed the ongoing rumours. “Nothing has been confirmed regarding BLACKPINK’s contract renewals and their future activities,” they were quoted saying, as cited by Soompi. Although it was previously reported that Lisa would also be leaving the services of YG Entertainment, there has been no news regarding her departure yet.

Earlier on September 21, industry insiders reported that BLACKPINK member Rose will be renewing her contract with her parent cadre — YG Entertainment while Jisoo, Jennie, and Lisa reportedly won’t have their contracts renewed, as reported by Soompi. It further added that all three members were reportedly going to switch organizations and yet work together for six months every year at the same time.

In response to the speculations, YG Entertainment stated, “Currently, the contract renewal of BLACKPINK has not been confirmed yet, it is still being discussed.” The final decision from Jisoo and Jennie is awaited. South Korean media reports claimed that numerous overseas investors were interested in working with Jisoo for her incredible performance. Whereas, Lisa’s great popularity in Southeast Asia was believed to be the primary reason that she was getting offers from management firms outside of South Korea.
