Actor Vikas Sethi, known for his roles in popular 2000s TV shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahiin To Hoga, and Kasautii Zindagi Kay, died on Sunday, September 8, at the age of 48. He is survived by his wife, Jhanvi Sethi, and their twin sons, born in 2021. The late actor was dealing with depression at a phase in his life. In a throwback interview with Bombay Times, Vikas Sethi had opened up on his struggles, saying, “It was a tough and frustrating phase. It wasn’t just about being out of work, but I was also facing difficulties on the personal front. I was suffering monetarily and was clinically depressed.”
He said his absence wasn’t a break but more like vanishing from the industry. He was preparing for a comeback by changing his look and losing weight. “Yes, I have made mistakes, but isn’t that human? If I had known that those mistakes would cost me my career, I would have avoided them. But now, I am positive and in a happy space. I am also getting a good response from people,” he had said.
Vikas shared how his wife and brother were there for him during tough times. He learned that in the industry, friends can disappear when you’re not successful. “Friends who would stand outside my home, asking me to party with them, suddenly disappeared when I wasn’t doing anything,” he had said. Despite this, he felt lucky to have his supportive family, especially his wife Jhanvi and brother Vishal.
After his death, Vikas Sethi’s wife Jhanvi Sethi said they were in Nashik for a family event when he started vomiting and experiencing diarrhea. He didn’t want to go to the hospital, so they called a doctor home. The doctor there told her he passed away last night in his sleep due to a cardiac arrest.
His most popular television appearances include that in Kahiin To Hoga, where he played Swayam Shergill and in Kasautii Zindagi Kay, where he played the role of Prem Basu.
