Piracy of movies inflicts irreparable damage on filmmakers and as technology advances, piracy cases surge. Despite these challenges, a Telugu movie managed to create a storm at the box office with its huge collections. Can you guess the name of the movie?
In 2013, Power Star Pawan Kalyan starred in Attarintiki Daredi, directed by ace filmmaker Trivikram Srinivas. The movie also featured Samantha Ruth Prabhu in a lead role opposite him. Attarintiki Daredi boasted hit songs like Bapu Gari Bommo, Deva Devam, Time to Party and Aaradugula Bullet, winning accolades from the audience.
However, a lesser-known fact is that 90 minutes of the movie’s footage was leaked online before its intended release. Initially set to hit theatres on August 7, 2013, the release was rescheduled to August 9 and later postponed to October 9 due to political tensions. However, compelled by the leak, the movie was released on September 23. Surprisingly, the incident amplified the hype around the film, with 80% of tickets sold out for the first three days in Hyderabad alone. It was subsequently released in countries like the USA, UK, Germany, Canada and Dubai.
Attarintiki Daredi delighted audiences with its songs, storyline, direction and stellar performances. The on-screen chemistry between Pawan Kalyan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu further contributed to its appeal. Reportedly made on a budget of Rs. 55 crore, the film raked in Rs. 187 crore at the box office, emerging as the most successful movie in the Telugu film industry.
Apart from Pawan Kalyan and Samantha, the film also featured Pranitha Subhash, Nadhiya, Boman Irani and Brahmanandam in pivotal roles. Produced by BVSN Prasad under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra, the music was composed by Devi Sri Prasad.
