Reena Roy, once a successful leading actress in Bollywood, was known for her charming onscreen presence. She solidified her presence in Bollywood with her amazing acting prowess in films like Apnapan (1977) and Aasha (1980). Reena Roy’s film Aasha is widely remembered for its brilliant storyline, acting skills and the song Sheesha Ho Ya Dil Ho. The 67-year-old actress talked about the picturisation of this track in an old interview. Reena Roy can be heard saying, “Aasha ka gaana hi itna acchha tha aur kuch gaane aise hote hain ki jinmein hum kuch na bhi karein phir bhi bohot acha lagta hain. (Aasha’s track was phenomenal. Some tracks become mesmerising even though the artists do nothing in that track)."
According to Reena Roy, the credit for the successful execution of this track goes to Om ji (director J Om Prakash). She then added that she copied the mannerisms of Lata Mangeshkar for this track. These mannerisms comprised the way the Nightingale of India used to cough in between the track’s recording.
Lata Mangeshkar rendered her vocals to this track, while the hit music duo of Laxmikant-Pyarelal composed the music. Anand Bakshi penned the lyrics.
Aasha starred an ensemble cast of actors Jeetendra, Rameshwari, Girish Karnad, Bhagwan Palav and others.
Reena Roy shared the screen again with Jeetendra in the 1993 film Aadmi Khilona Hai directed by J Om Prakash. This happened by fluke, as she was not the first choice for this film. As per the reports, director J Om Prakash had initially cast Dimple Kapadia for this project. She had reportedly even shot for a few scenes, but it is said that her demands soon went above the roof. This forced the late director to reconsider the decision. Ultimately, differences caused Dimple to opt out of the film.
As per reports, when Aadmi Khilona Hai’s pre-production work began, Reena Roy had returned from Pakistan after divorcing her husband. She wanted to be in films again and asked her friend Jeetendra to help her. Jeetendra informed director J Om Prakash and he decided to cast Reena Roy.
