When Joey King's Weight Loss Left Kissing Booth Co-Star Taylor Zakhar Perez 'Worried'
"When I showed up, I was like, “Jo, are you OK? Because you’ve lost a lot of weight," Taylor Zakhar Perez recounted.

Actress Joey King is renowned for her strict fitness regime, disciplined food habits and regular workouts. The Kissing Booth star takes her preparation for films to the next level. This was evident in her recent miniseries, We Were the Lucky Ones. Joey had to undergo significant weight loss for her role as a “very, very, very thin Jewish woman.” While this transformation was just a part of the show, Joey’s friend and former co-star Taylor Zakhar Perez expressed concern about her well-being.

The Kissing Booth co-stars recently appeared on Variety’s Actors on Actors, where they engaged in candid conversation, teasing each other and sharing interesting details. They also discussed their most recent roles, including King’s portrayal of a young Jewish woman against the backdrop of World War II in the Hulu miniseries.

When Joey King’s Major Weight Loss Left Taylor Zakhar Perez Worried

During their conversation, Joey King recalled the time she was shooting for We Were the Lucky Ones in Romania, and Zakhar Perez came to meet her, making her feel very happy. “You visited me in Romania, where we were filming “We Were the Lucky Ones” for seven months. I was so appreciative. I missed you so much, and I was so happy you came,” she said.

Joining in, the Red, White & Royal Blue star shared how he got worried after seeing her lose so much weight. “When I showed up, I was like, “Jo, are you OK? Because you’ve lost a lot of weight,” he recounted. Explaining her reasons, King said that her character of Halina Kurc had such a demand—someone who has limited resources and is going through the Holocaust.

“I got very, very, very thin for that show because my character is a Jewish woman passing as an Aryan woman. But at the beginning of the war, they’re living off rations. And then the access to food is so limited… We’re not actually going through the Holocaust; we’re portraying a family that is. At the end of the day, we should feel uncomfortable when doing these scenes that require such heavy emotion…” she explained.

Agreeing with her, Perez added, “It’s a family of heroes.”

For the unversed, King and Perez worked together in the sequels of the beloved Netflix film, Kissing Booth. Ever since they have continued to remain close friends.
