In this exclusive interaction with IBNLive.com, Kishan opened up about his relationship with filmmaker Surender Reddy and his experience of working in the Telugu film industry. Touted as an action-comedy, 'Kick 2' arrives in theatres on June 12, 2015This is your second film with Surender Reddy. What type of rapport do you share with him?
I have tremendous respect for Surender Reddy. He is a very honest young man who is full of new/innovative ideas. Moreover, as a filmmaker, he is fully aware of my capacities. As such, he is able to extract top-notch performances from me. Furthermore, Surender shares a good rapport with is actors and is actively involved in each and every aspect—right from dialogue delivery to body language—of their performance. In fact, as far as Telugu cinema is concerned, I consider him to be my godfather.How difficult was it for you to express yourself in Telugu? Can cinema ever overcome the language barrier?
Things were a bit difficult initially. But now I can understand Telugu reasonably well. In order to pick up the language, I asked my co-stars to communicate with me in Telugu on the sets. Moreover, my knowledge of Sanskrit also came in handy. In fact, soon I will be trying my hand at dubbing too. Personally speaking, an artist can pick up any language if he or she is sincere and willing to put in the effort.
Moreover, if someone for example watches an Iranian film, he or she will be able to understand the basic sentiments involved even without understanding what is being said. As such, cinema is a universal medium and language is not a major barrier at all.What are the lessons that the Bhojpuri film industry can learn from its Telugu counterpart?
The Telugu film industry is thriving because people over here are extremely passionate about their movies. The arrival of new releases is celebrated with the same zeal that most of us celebrate weddings/festivals. Moreover, the infrastructure too is pretty solid. Most of the theatres are maintained quite well. This craze needs to be admired and inculcated by the Bhojpuri industry.What are the biggest challenges facing the Bhojpuri industry at present?
The fundamental problem facing Bhojpuri cinema is the shortage of funds. Bigger budgets are needed to get a wider reach. Then there is also a shortage of good writers so content suffers. Moreover, at present most films are made keeping in mind the masses or general public. This needs to change. Bhojpuri cinema must also satisfy the classes. Now let’s talk about Ravi Kishan the person. How did your tryst with films begin?
I have never really planned things in life. My entry into films happened by chance. When I got my first offer, there was a lot of pressure on me to be financially stable. Hence, I took it up. Thereafter, 'Tere Naam' and 'Bigg Boss' happened. This made me a recognizable face. Looking back, there must have been some type of force or energy which propelled to take good decisions and succeed.How has the journey been? What are the biggest things you have learnt so far?
The biggest learning is that there is no need to have PR machinery; one’s work has to do the talking. Then, personally speaking it is important to value family. Moreover, in order to survive in the industry an actor has to like a soldier, always ready deliver. And finally, cinema is a vast medium. To excel it is important to keep an open mind, learning new things every day.What advice would you like to give newcomers or aspiring actors?
Newcomers need to be focused in everything they do. We are all part of a proper industry. As such, there is a need to be punctual, disciplined and thoroughly professional. Moreover, personal life must not be allowed to overshadow or hinder one’s career.
