Actor Sidharth Malhotra remembered Kargil War hero Captain Vikram Batra, also known as Sher Shah, on the 25th anniversary of his death. Malhotra, who played Captain Batra in the 2021 film “Shershaah,” praised his legacy of bravery and honour in a social media post on Sunday.

“Param Vir Chakra, Captain Vikram Batra, it’s been 25 years since your fearless actions and ultimate sacrifice made history. Your legacy to this day remains the highest ideals of bravery and honor,” Sidharth captioned an archival photo of Captain Vikram Batra on X.

During the Kargil War in 1999, Captain Vikram Batra led his troops from the 13th battalion of the JAKRIF regiment of the Indian Army. He lost his life on July 7, 1999, at the age of 24, fighting Pakistani forces. Captain Batra was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, the highest wartime gallantry award. Captain Vikram Batra was affectionately known as the ‘Tiger of Drass,’ the ‘Lion of Kargil,’ and the ‘Kargil Hero’ due to his remarkable feats. His victory slogan was “Yeh dil mange more.”

“We remember and honor you today and always for ‘Yeh Dil Mange More’. Jai Hind #CaptainVikramBatra #25YearsOfKargilVijay #Kargil,” the actor wrote in his post.

Every year on July 26, Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorates India’s victory over Pakistan in the war. This year marks its 25th anniversary. Directed by Vishnuvardhan, Shershaah premiered directly on Prime Video in 2021, featuring Sidharth Malhotra in the dual roles of Captain Vikram Batra and his twin brother Vishal Batra. The Hindi film garnered praise from both critics and audiences for its heartfelt narrative and soulful songs such as Raataan Lambiyan and Mann Bharryaa.

At the 69th National Film Awards, Shershaah received the Special Jury Award. The film, featuring Sidharth Malhotra as Captain Vikram Batra and Kiara Advani as Dimple Cheema, Captain Batra’s fiancée, also starred Shiv Panditt, Raj Arjun, Pranay Pachauri, Himanshu Ashok Malhotra, Nikitin Dheer, Anil Charanjeett, Sahil Vaid, Shataf Figar, and Pawan Chopra. Produced jointly by Dharma Productions and Kaash Entertainment, Shershaah captivated audiences with its heartfelt portrayal and memorable performances. Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani tied the knot in February 2023, two years after the film’s release, marking a personal milestone following their on-screen collaboration.
