Actor Sharad S Kapoor started his Bollywood career as an assistant director and dancer in the film Lakshmanrekha. Sharad then debuted as a male lead in Mahesh Bhatt’s Dastak and garnered accolades for his acting. Despite this, he failed to make much headway in his acting career. Sharad continued to deliver a string of flops until he played the role of gang leader Prakash Sharma in the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Josh. Interestingly, Aamir Khan was first offered this role. He declined. In an earlier interview with Indiatimes, Josh’s director, Mansoor Ali Khan, revealed the reason behind it. According to him, Max’s charismatic character (played by Shah Rukh Khan) appealed so much to his cousin Aamir Khan that he did not want to play a lover boy. This opened up an opportunity for Sharad who utilised it brilliantly and won the Bengal Film Journalist’s Award under the best supporting actor category. He was also nominated for the other award categories.
After Josh, Sharad acted in other renowned films like LOC Kargil, Lakshya, the television series The Broken News, etc. He has a couple of upcoming films as well on the professional front, i.e.- Dahek: A Restless Mind and Awara Pagal Deewana 2. Besides films, he made successful strides in other business ventures as well like restaurants. He has two big restaurants in Mumbai and Bengaluru. He also has a website with the title, https://www.sharadskapoor.com/.
On the personal front, Sharad is married to Koel Basu, granddaughter of former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu, in 2008. Sharad’s engagement was a low-key affair and he had talked about it in an earlier interview with the Mumbai Mirror. According to Josh actor, the marriage was to be a much-publicised affair as he is an actor and Koel hails from a political family. Due to this reason, they had invited only close friends and family members. “It is a new beginning in my life”, Sharad concluded the interview with these words. The 48-year-old actor currently resides in Mumbai with his family.
