Superstar Rajinikanth has tweeted he is not supporting any side in the upcoming RK Nagar Assembly bypoll, two days after his meeting with BJP candidate Gangai Amaran sparked off speculation.
"My support is for no one in the coming elections," Rajinikanth tweeted from his official handle.

Speculation started after the BJP candidate Gangai Amaran, who is also an eminent music composer, met Rajinikanth at his Poes Garden residence. Shortly after that meeting, Amaran's son Venkat Prabhu had tweeted: "Today our thalaivar @superstarrajini met and wished my dad for his political victory in #RKNagarByElection #happyson #GangaiAmaran."

Gangai Amaran, brother of ace music director Ilay Raja, has composed hit numbers for many Tamil films. He joined the BJP in 2014, and has been fielded in the constituency left vacant following the death of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
The political entry of Rajinikanth, who enjoys cult status in a state where politics meshes with cinema, has been the subject of much surmises, but so far all of them have proved to be false alarms.
