Payal Kapadia’s acclaimed film All We Imagine As Light, which triumphed at Cannes, has received five nominations at the 17th Asia Pacific Screen Awards. According to a press release from the Asia Pacific Screen Academy, this year’s nominations featured 31 films from 23 countries and regions across the Asia Pacific. All We Imagine As Light made history by being the first Indian film to win the Grand Prix award at the Cannes Film Festival. It has been nominated for several prestigious awards, including best film, best director, and best screenplay, with Payal Kapadia receiving nods in the latter two categories.

Kani Kusruti is recognised for her outstanding performance, earning a nomination for best performance, while cinematographer Ranabir Das has been nominated for best cinematography. This Malayalam-Hindi film is a collaborative effort between Chalk and Cheese Films, Another Birth from India and Petit Chaos from France.

The film stars Kani and Divya Prabha, depicting the lives of two Kerala nurses, Prabha and Anu, who share an apartment in Mumbai. In Malayalam, it is titled Prabhayay Ninachathellam and also features Chaya Kadam in a significant role.

The trailer for Payal Kapadia’s film All We Imagine As Light was dropped on October 10, generating excitement as it gears up for its much-anticipated nationwide release in November.

The Asia Pacific Screen Awards celebrate the cinematic excellence of 78 countries and areas of the Asia Pacific, showing films that reflect their cultural roots and the rich diversity of the region.

Joining Kapadia’s film in the spotlight, April by Dea Kulumbegashvili has also received five nominations, including best film, best director, best screenplay, best cinematography, and best performance, offering a gripping narrative centred around an obstetrician-gynecologist.

Another Indian entry, Boong, supported by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, has been nominated in the best youth film category. The film made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and is directed by newcomer Lakshmipriya Devi.

Additionally, filmmaker PS Vinothraj has secured a best screenplay nomination for his Tamil film Kottukkaali, which is titled The Adamant Girl in English.

The 17th Asia Pacific Screen Awards will take place on November 30 at The Langham in Gold Coast, Australia.
