Neena Gupta is enjoying her second innings in Bollywood. After a phase where she did not have work, she is currently at a phase where she can choose her projects and also take a break. In a recent interview, the actor recalled her initial days in Mumbai. She mentioned how she used to work as a waitress at Prithvi Café and her then-boyfriend used to mock her for this job.
In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Neena Gupta reflected on her initial days in Mumbai when she had moved from Delhi to pursue her acting career. She talked about how she and her then-boyfriend were jobless and she decided to work at Prithvi Café. The actor mentioned how her then-boyfriend would mock her job despite being jobless himself. Gupta said, “One day, my boyfriend came, and I think he was drunk, and he asked if I had come all the way from Delhi only to become a waitress. He mocked me, despite me paying for his cigarette money. He was questioning me for working hard, but wasn’t bothered about borrowing money from me.”

Gupta mentioned how she would lend him money and quipped, “Thank God, shaadi nahi ki.” She mentioned how she made bharta and Irish coffee at the café and just hung around hoping to get spotted by a director or a producer. She added that the owner would give her free dinner in exchange for her work. In the same conversation, she talked about how she often lends out money without the intention of receiving it back. She continued, “It makes no sense if you wait for them to repay you because it hurts the relationship.”
On the work front, the actor will be next seen in Disney+ Hotstar’s 1000 Babies. Gupta is currently on a break as she is helping her daughter Masaba with her newborn child. She will join the shoot of Panchayat 4 after her break.
