Namashi Chakraborty, son of the legendary Mithun Chakraborty, recently shared his heartfelt pride and admiration for his father, who has been honored with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The announcement was made on the morning of September 30, celebrating Mithun’s exceptional contribution to Indian cinema. In an interview with IndiaToday.in, Namashi highlighted his father’s journey as a ‘self-made superstar,’ emphasizing the magnitude of the honor.
He expressed, “Feeling extremely proud and honoured. My father is a self-made superstar and a great citizen. His life journey is an inspiration for millions. We are all feeling elated about this magnificent honour.”
Earlier in the day, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared the news on the social media platform X, praising Mithun’s enduring legacy. “Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations. Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema. To be presented at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on Oct 8, 2024,” he posted.
Mithun Chakraborty himself spoke to ANI about the recognition, expressing his overwhelming joy. “I don’t have words. Neither I can laugh nor cry. This is such a big thing… I could not have imagined this. I am extremely happy. I dedicate this to my family and my fans across the world,” the veteran actor shared emotionally.
Fondly known as ‘Mithun Da,’ the legendary actor became a beloved figure in Indian cinema during the 1980s and 1990s. With iconic performances in films like Disco Dancer, Prem Pratigyaa, and Agneepath, Mithun established himself as a versatile actor and a trailblazer, especially with his role as India’s first ‘Disco Dancer.’ Today, at 74, he continues to contribute to the industry, frequently appearing as a judge on various dance reality shows.
Mithun Chakraborty’s illustrious career has been marked by numerous accolades, including three National Film Awards and several Bollywood honors. Earlier this year, in January 2024, the Government of India also recognized his contributions by bestowing him with the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third-highest civilian award.
