Mona Ghosh Recalls Bipasha Basu's BOLD Reaction To Dubbing In Jism And Raaz: ‘I Will Kill You If...'
In a recent interview, Mona Ghosh shared stories about her experiences, including Bipasha's humorous warning.

In the early days of the Hindi film industry, many female actors had their voices dubbed by professional voice artists, a fact that the audience was unaware of until those actresses began doing interviews or started using their own voices in films. Prominent stars like Rani Mukerji, Bipasha Basu, Ameesha Patel, Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, and Nargis Fakhri were all dubbed by voice artist Mona Ghosh. In a recent interview, Mona opened up about the different reactions she received from actresses regarding her work. Bipasha Basu, for example, once jokingly said, “I will kill you if you dub for me again.”

Speaking on The Motor Mouth YouTube channel, Mona shared that she provided the voice for Bipasha in films such as Raaz, Jism, Footpath, and Gunaah, among others. When asked about how the actresses responded to her dubbing, Mona revealed, “Varying reactions. Some said I don’t know how you do this, someone said I will kill you if you dub for me again.” She then confirmed it was Bipasha who made that remark but clarified that she had no control over the decision. “It’s not my decision. I don’t go asking ‘can I dub for Bipasha?’ If someone comes to me, it’s my profession, why will I say no?”

Mona also recalled Rani Mukerji’s displeasure with having her voice dubbed in Ghulam. When asked about how she matched Rani’s real voice, Mona explained that it was significantly different, which is why Rani disliked it. “In every interview, she says, ‘I hate it,’” Mona said, adding that it’s understandable for an actor to feel uncomfortable when someone else’s voice is matched to their on-screen persona. Rani has openly expressed her frustration with Aamir Khan and director Vikram Bhatt’s decision to dub her voice for Ghulam, preferring her natural voice, which was retained in later films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

While some actors were not fans of being dubbed, others appreciated Mona’s work. She fondly remembered Nargis Fakhri’s reaction after dubbing her voice in Rockstar. “She came and hugged me and said, ‘Oh my god, it’s fantastic what you have done,’” Mona recalled.

Mona also shed light on why she was often called to dub for female actors, explaining that many models who transitioned to acting hadn’t yet developed their voices for screen performances. “They needed people to do the voice, the performance part of it, so it had conviction and the necessary drama,” she said.

Over the years, Mona has dubbed for numerous stars, including Ameesha Patel in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, Deepika Padukone in Om Shanti Om, and Katrina Kaif in films like Rajneeti, Humko Deewana Kar Gaye, and Sarkar.
