Sridevi impressed both fans and critics with her powerhouse performance. The film did wonders at the box office.

Legendary Indian actress Sridevi, who passed away in 2018, left behind a huge legacy and a filmography worth envying. The actress, who ruled the 80s and the ’90s with her charm, elegance and impeccable acting chops, had taken a long hiatus from acting after her marriage to film producer Boney Kapoor. After years of staying away from cinema, she made an impressive comeback with English Vinglish, which portrayed her as a middle-class homemaker and depicted her endeavour to learn English. She then appeared in the smash hit Mom, which was her final film appearance before her untimely death in 2018.

Sridevi impressed both fans and critics with her powerhouse performance in Mom and the film also did wonders at the box office, earning Rs 175 crore against a Rs 30 crore budget. The film was directed by Ravi Udyawar and starred Sridevi as a vigilante mother who decides to take the law into her own hands when her teenage stepdaughter is sexually assaulted at a party and the law turns a blind eye to the crime. The film is the best example of the danger a mother can go through to make sure that her children get justice.

Sajal Aly played Sridevi’s stepdaughter Arya who initially rebuffs her attempts to build a warm relationship with her. Akshaye Khanna and Nawazuddin Siddique also appear in pivotal roles. The massive success of Mom led to the makers dubbing it in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam as well. Additionally, the film did phenomenal business in China as well, where it was released two years after its initial release in India. Sridevi won the National Award posthumously for the film AR Rahman also received a National Award for Best Background Score in the film.
