Amid the brewing controversy between Divya Khosla Kumar and Alia Bhatt over their respective films, Savi and Jigra, Divya has escalated the feud by taking a direct jab at Alia on Instagram. Sharing a photo of an empty theater, Divya implied that the screenings of Jigra are attracting little to no audience. In response, Karan Johar has shared a cryptic post emphasizing the importance of silence.
In a subtle response, Karan Johar shared a cryptic Instagram post, just hours after Divya’s remarks, stating, “Silence is the best speech you will ever give to fools.” While he did not directly address the controversy, the timing of his post seemed to suggest that it was a veiled reaction to Divya’s accusations against Alia.
For the unaware, in an Instagram story, Divya had posted, “Went to Citi Mall PVR for Jigra show. Theatre was totally empty … all theaters going empty everywhere. #Aliabhatt me sach mein Bahut #Jigra hai.. khud hi tickets karide aur fake collections announce kar diye. Wonder why paid media is silent. #weshdnotfooltheaudience #truthoverlies #HappyDussehra Х (sic).” In a clever play on words, Divya sarcastically noted, “Sach Mein Bahut Jigra Hai,” insinuating that Alia has the audacity to manipulate her box office numbers by allegedly purchasing tickets herself to inflate the film’s success.
The tension between the two actresses isn’t new. Divya had previously addressed the media, acknowledging the perceived similarities between Savi and Jigra. Both films revolve around a jailbreak plot, though Divya maintains that each movie has its own distinct path. Speaking to IANS, Divya had commented, “Yes, I too have been getting this question a lot from the media, the industry, and the trade that Savi and Jigra are seeming very similar… our film was based on jailbreak—how a simple housewife attempts a jailbreak to get her husband out of prison. And even though Jigra may be similar, I feel every film has its own journey to it.”
Despite these similarities, Divya emphasized that Savi has had a successful run in theaters and on OTT platforms, topping charts in various countries. This further solidifies her belief that her film stands on its own merits, regardless of the comparisons.
