Sharing Lakshya’s poster, Karan took to his Instagram handle and shared, “The last film my father saw before he left us. Farhan Akhtar announced yesterday that Hrithik Roshan’s Lakshya will be re-released in cinemas on June 21. The Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta starrer will clock 20 years this year and to mark this special occasion, the makers have announced that the film will be re-released in theatres.

The announcement read, “Come, relive the journey of a film that ignited countless dreams and inspired generations. Celebrating 20 years of Lakshya, back in cinemas on 21st June.” Check out the post here:

Fans flocked to the comments section to express their excitement. One person wrote, “Farhan needs to direct more movies.” Another wrote, “The best.” One person wrote, “One of your best movies ever… this was way ahead of its time… so inspirational… wonder why we don’t see these kind of movies these days…” Another added, “Can’t wait for this. Congratulations for 20 years.”

Lakshya, which was released three years after Farhan Akhtar’s debut directorial Dil Chahta Hai, had a lot riding on it after the huge success of his first film. Although Lakshya failed to replicate the success of Dil Chahta Hai, it definitely made a mark as a coming-of-age story against a fictionalized backdrop of the 1999 Kargil War. Starring Hrithik Roshan in the lead, the film was released in 2004 and has now clocked 20 years.

Although Hrithik Roshan headlined the film, he wasn’t the first choice of director Farhan Akhtar for Lakshya. The role was initially offered to Arjun Rampal. However, since Arjun didn’t have the required dates to shoot the film, the role was offered to Hrithik.

The film also featured Preity Zinta, Boman Irani and Amitabh Bachchan in prominent roles. Even though the film had an impressive star cast, it earned below-par 230 million at the domestic box office and was declared ‘Flop’. However, over the years, the film amassed a cult following and is quite appreciated by Hrithik’s fans.
