Kangana Ranaut Shares Cryptic Post Amid Alia Bhatt's 'Jigra' Low Opening: 'When You Destroy...'
Kangana Ranaut shared a cryptic Instagram note seemingly aimed at Alia Bhatt's Jigra after its low box office opening. Here's what she had to say.

Kangana Ranaut is back in the spotlight with another fiery and cryptic Instagram story that seems to throw shade at Alia Bhatt’s latest release, Jigra. The film, which hit theatres on October 11, had a low opening, reportedly earning around Rs 3.58 crore (net) across all languages in India on its first day, according to Sacnilk. In light of the film’s lukewarm start, Kangana’s post has ignited fresh buzz around the box office performance of women-centric films.

Without naming anyone directly, Kangana posted, “When you destroy women-centric films and make sure that they don’t work, they don’t work, even when you make them. Read that again. Thanks.” Although no specific reference was made, the timing of the post has led fans to believe that it’s a subtle dig at Jigra, considering the film’s theme and Alia Bhatt’s prominent role in it.

Jigra marks Alia Bhatt’s latest attempt at producing and headlining a women-driven narrative. In the film, Alia plays Satya Anand, a brave sister who is determined to free her brother Ankur Anand, played by Vedang Raina, from a foreign prison where he is being tortured. The action-packed thriller, directed by Vasan Bala, also stars Manoj Pahwa and Rahul Ravindran in pivotal roles. Co-produced by Alia’s Eternal Sunshine Productions and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the film had high expectations riding on it, but its opening day figures have drawn mixed reactions.

This isn’t the first time Kangana has taken a jab at Alia. Earlier, before the release of Gangubai Kathiawadi, Kangana publicly criticised the film’s casting and production, calling it a “200-crore disaster waiting to happen” and dubbing Alia as a “romcom bimbo.” Despite Kangana’s harsh remarks, Gangubai Kathiawadi went on to become a critical and commercial success.

Whether Kangana’s latest comments are directed at Alia Bhatt or a broader criticism of Bollywood’s approach to women-led films remains to be clarified. However, her cryptic post has certainly stirred conversations, as Jigra’s box office journey unfolds.

What's your reaction?
