Kangana Ranaut, who is currently producing, directing, and starring in her upcoming film Emergency, recently opened up about her past “diva” days when she was known for making demanding requests on film sets. Reflecting on her earlier years in the industry, Kangana shared that she would often insist on staying in a specific hotel room, even threatening to halt production if her demands were not met. Now, as she takes on the role of a producer, she admits that her past behavior has come back to haunt her, describing it as a form of “karma.”
In an interview with Mashable India, Kangana was asked if she now empathises with proudcers, given her experience on the other side of the filmmaking process. The actor responded by stating, “I have always been a very empathetic person. I don’t like people who are fake. I hate fake people. I am the most gentle, soft-hearted, empathetic.” However, when questioned about her “diva demands” as a leading actress, Kangana acknowledged that she had undergone a “reality check” since becoming a producer.
Kangana admitted that during her earlier years, she was very particular about her accommodations while shooting on location. “I would have very strict demands about hotel rooms back in the day. If those demands were not met, I would refuse to shoot,” she confessed. This behaviour, she believes, is now coming back to her as a form of karma. “That reality check happened with me. That karma came back to haunt me,” she said, adding that she once told her brother, “It is my karma. We would also say that we need this particular hotel or we wouldn’t shoot.”
Without going into specific details, Kangana hinted that she has also faced challenging demands from actors on her own projects. This has given her a new perspective on the pressures faced by production teams. “That reality check happened with me,” she reiterated, acknowledging that her past actions are now affecting her in her new role.
Kangana started her career as an actress with the 2006 film Gangster. She later ventured into directing with her 2009 film Manikarnika, which encountered numerous challenges during production. In addition to her film career, Kangana is now a Member of Parliament representing Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.
