Released internationally as The Crow’s Egg in 2015, Kaaka Muttai is a comedy-drama directed by M Manikandan. The film marks his directorial debut and is jointly produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films and Vetrimaaran’s Grass Root Film Company, with distribution by Fox Star Studios.
The story follows two young boys, Vignesh and Ramesh, played by newcomers, living in a Chennai slum. Alongside them are actors like Aishwarya Rajesh, Ramesh Thilak, and Yogi Babu in supporting roles, with Silambarasan making a cameo appearance.
Recently, V Ramesh’s pictures with actor Vijay Sethupathi are circulating on social media. In the picture, the actor is seen wearing a blue checked shirt with denim jeans. The duo posed amidst an indoor setting. Alongside him, Vijay Sethupathi is also seen donning a blue shirt with brown cargo pants as he poses for the lens. The picture is now making a huge noise on the internet.
In 2015, when M Manikandan was looking for actors for Kaaka Muttai, he picked Ramesh for a crucial part in the film. Ramesh is from a fishing community. Manikandan found Ramesh playing in a slum near the beach in Kasimedu and took his picture. Then, he spoke to Ramesh’s parents about him being in the movie.
After his first film, Ramesh worked with Vikram on a music video called Spirit of Chennai. He also appeared in movies like Motta Shiva Ketta Shiva with Raghava Lawrence and Aramm with Nayanthara in 2017. While his first movie was a hit, some of Ramesh’s later projects didn’t get as much attention. He also acted alongside Vignesh in movies such as Padaippalan and Vendaikkai Katthirikkai, which faced delays or were never released. In 2020, he starred in Pizhai, which didn’t receive positive reviews.
Kaaka Muttai premiered worldwide on September 5, 2014, at the 39th Toronto International Film Festival. It was then screened at various other film festivals before hitting theatres globally on June 5, 2015. Audiences praised it for the actors’ performances, the storyline, how it was shot, and other important aspects of the film.
