Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Paul Feig, Jackpot is set to release on August 15. It will be streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Starring Awkwafina and John Cena, the upcoming action-comedy had fans eagerly waiting for its glimpse. Treating them to the same, the makers finally dropped the trailer of the flick and it promises a blend of thrilling action and sharp-witted humour.

The star-studded movie’s trailer perfectly showcases the dynamic chemistry between the two leads. While Awkwafina’s comic timing shines through in the trailer, Cena’s action prowess is sure to keep you captivated throughout. Providing a perfect balance, the quick one-liners, humourous situations and action-packed sequences promise an entertaining watch.

Set in Los Angeles in 2030, Jackpot navigates through the life of Katie, a struggling actress who ends up winning a lottery only to find out that the state of California grants everyone else until sundown to murder the winner and claim the prize money. To help Katie stay alive is an amateur lottery protection agent (Cena). He tries to protect her in exchange for a cut of the cash if she survives.

In the trailer, Cena explains, “Katie, you won the lottery. Now, anyone with a losing ticket that kills you before sundown gets your money — legally.” As Awkwafina replies saying that it sounds like murder, he clarifies, “Oh, not in California. It’s just a chance at the big time.”

Later, Awkwafina can be heard saying, “I do trust you. I think it’s because you look like a bulldog that, like, a witch cast a spell on and turned into a human. You ever get that?”

Besides Awkwafina and John Cena, the trailer also hints at a strong supporting cast. Besides, stalwarts like Simu Liu and Machine Gun Kelly are also expected to join the star cast for a cameo. The screenplay for Jackpot is written by Rob Yescombe. Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum, Paul Feig and Laura Fischer came together to jointly back the film. Meanwhile, the executive producers are John Cena, Michelle Morrissey, Rob Yescombe and Zack Roth.

John Cena has been keeping busy ever since the year began. Earlier this year, the actor appeared in the 2024 films Argylle and Ricky Stanicky. Additionally, he also had the new season of The Bear. As for Awkwafina, the actress co-starred in last year’s horror comedy Renfield. Not only this, she also lent her voice to recent features such as The Little Mermaid, Kung Fu Panda 4 and IF.
