Is The New 'Rebellious' Poster of Lipstick Under My Burkha a Response To Censorship Battle?

The makers of the much-anticipated film Lipstick Under My Burkha on Monday released a new poster of the film. And by the looks of it, the poster - featuring a hand showing the middle finger, can be interpreted as their answer to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The film has been making headlines ever since the censor board, headed by Pahlaj Nihalani, raised objections to its content and termed the film "too lady-oriented". Nihalani, in fact, refused to certify the film on account of "sexual content, abusive words, and audio pornography." While the film struggled to get a nod here in India, it was winning accolades at various other International film festivals. The makers had to contest the CBFC's decision and it was only after the intervention of FCAT (Film Certification Appellate Tribunal) that the film was cleared with an A-rating.

The makers took to Twitter to share the poster and wrote, "A dash of red can spark off a rebellion. Catch #LipstickUnderMyBurkha in cinemas on 21 July! #LipstickRebellionBegins" and even though they haven't mentioned it, the poster seems to be an amalgamated response of their censorship battle.

Directed by Alankrita Srivastava, the feminist drama that delves and explores the sexuality of four women, stars sKonkona Sen Sharma, Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur in lead roles along with Sushant Singh, Vikrant Massey, Shashank Arora, Vaibhav Tatwawaadi. The film is slated to release on July 21, 2017.
