Is the government planning to suspend protesting students over Gajendra Chauhan's appointment controversy?
Sources in the I&B Ministry say the government is not ruling out the suspension of the new batch which will be begin its classes next month.

New Delhi: With FTII students protesting for 2 months now over the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman of the film institute, the Centre has cracked the whip and expressed unhappiness over the functioning of the institute.

Sources in the I&B Ministry say the government is not ruling out the suspension of the new batch which will be begin its classes next month. Sources say the government feels FTII is misusing its autonomy. There have been 39 strikes in 55 years and not one convocation in the institute's history.

The students of FTII are presently on strike - protesting the appointment of the institute's chairman - Gajendra Chauhan. While many in the film industry, including actors like Anupam Kher and Ranbir Kapoor have stated that Chauhan should step down from his post, Chauhan himself is adamant on keeping the post.
