Many big releases are lined up on the occasion of Eid this week. Amid all this, a low budget Kannada drama, which has its heart at the right place, will quietly hit theatres on April 12. Titled Appa I Love You and directed by Atharv Arya, the star cast comprises actors like Prem Kumar and Manvita Kamath. One actor who is making his big screen debut with the film is Sanjay, who plays a character named Vikas in the film. During a recent interview, Atharv Arya praised Sanjay and said that the entire film is standing tall on the shoulders of this new young star in the making.
Life did not have it easy for Sanjay. His estranged parents reportedly left him in the care of his grandmother along with a sister. His grandmother brought up the two children with limited means.
Appa I Love You is not the first time that Sanjay will be facing the camera though. He was a child artist in the 2003 Upendra movie Gokarna. He played the part of a young Upendra in the film. The acting bug bit him right from this movie itself, but he needed to have financial stability before he made his career as an actor.
The choice between pursuing a career in films or arranging his sister’s marriage was daunting. Hence, he undertook various odd jobs. He established a small shop, worked in a supermarket, and even served as a gym instructor. Eventually, he even launched his own gym. It was then that he started doing auditions for film but rejections stared him in the face. He has said that casting directors used to say they would call back and then not answer his calls.
Finally, he got a call for auditions for Appa I Love You. Initially, he was nervous to audition before seasoned actors, so he was given 10 days’ time. At the end of it, he impressed all and was selected for the lead role in Appa I Love You
