Sonu Sood turns 51 years old today. The actor is one of the popular names in Bollywood and South film industry. Apart from acting, he is also famous for his humanitarian work, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2020, Sonu Sood was chosen for the SDG Special Humanitarian Action Award by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for his humanitarian work during the Covid-19 period. He debuted with the Tamil film Kallazhagar in 1999. Sonu Sood now owns a luxurious house in the Lokhandwala area of Mumbai and has a reported net worth of Rs 140 crore. He had only Rs 5000 in his pocket when he first landed in Mumbai.
Sonu Sood came to Mumbai with an aspiration to become an actor in 1998. He got his first huge break in Bollywood with Mani Ratnam’s film Jodhaa Akbar. It was released in 2008. He had his share of struggles in the initial years of his career. In an interview, he said that he landed in Pali Hill. The rent for a minuscule flat was Rs 20,000 and the deposit was Rs 3 lakh. Sonu Sood thus moved into a cheap lodge opposite Kamalistan Studios. He used to hand out his pictures to anyone who cared to take them.
“No one acknowledged me, so just to grab their attention I’d ask them for a glass of water. I drank 30 to 40 glasses of water every day,” said Sonu Sood in an interview. He used to walk a lot, sometimes from Bandra to Goregaon, as he couldn’t afford cabs.
After his debut in Bollywood with the film Shaheed-E-Azam in 2002, Sonu Sood never looked back and is now one of the sought-after actors in the film industry.
Talking about his cars, Sonu Sood reportedly owns a Mercedes Benz ML class 350 CDI which is roughly priced at Rs 66 lakhs. He also owns an Audi Q7 which costs Rs 80 lakhs and a Porsche Panama which is said to be Rs 2 crores.
Sonu Sood will be making his director debut with the film Fateh. It stars Sonu Sood and Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead roles.
