Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre, who has been fighting cancer for quite some time now, is a source of positivity for a number of people. From accepting her condition to overcoming its effects, the actress has been very vocal about it through social media.

On Friday, she took to Instagram to write about her sister Rupa, who has been a pillar of strength through her journey. She wrote, "Rupa Tai has been all this and more. She dropped everything in a heartbeat to be with me on this journey. She has been my rock...my person... Rupa Tai was involved in my journey from when I was diagnosed to the time I was deciding the course of treatment to packing her bags and coming with me to New York. She was there from get-go. Her transition from one role to another was seamless. A dictator when I needed to eat right or take my meds or an empathetic counselor alternating between giving advice and offering silent support when all I needed was to be alone with my thoughts. She was around. She was with me and by me, at all times."

Elaborating about her bond with her elder sibling, she added, "Sisters share a special relationship. We are literally an extension of each other. For bad days, her presence did the trick and the good days...well, it just got better! We have now returned home - to our respective families and lives, but us together in New York for those 6 months...I am forever indebted... #SwitchOnTheSunshine #OneDayAtATime @ranadiverupa"

Admiring Rupa, she also quoted Australian poet Pam Brown. "An older sister is a friend and defender- a listener, conspirator, a counselor and a sharer of delights. And sorrows too," she wrote.

Putting up a brave fight against metastatic cancer for months in New York, Sonali returned to Mumbai recently. Her husband Goldie Behl said that her treatment has ended for now, but the battle still continues and she will have to go for regular check-ups.

"Sonali is doing good. She is back for good. She is recovering very well. For now, treatment has ended. But the disease can come back so regular checkups will be done," IANS quoted Goldie.

Sonali made the announcement earlier this year that she was diagnosed with a high grade cancer. She credited her family and close friends for being her support system.
