Excitement is building for a new chapter in the Dune saga, as the highly awaited series Dune: Prophecy has just dropped its first full trailer. Set 10,000 years before the events of Denis Villeneuve’s films, this show explores the emergence of the Bene Gesserit and the powerful House Harkonnen. The casting of Bollywood superstar Tabu has also generated a buzz, especially among Indian fans. Dune: Prophecy is set to premiere on November 17.
The trailer is packed with intense moments, focusing on Emily Watson as Valya Harkonnen and Olivia Williams as Tula Harkonnen. It gives a glimpse into the Sisterhood’s struggles as these two characters battle to safeguard their world from impending threats. Additionally, the trailer hints at the escalating conflict between the Atreides and Harkonnen, featuring Tabu’s character, Sister Francesca, who silently watches the drama unfold.

According to Vulture, Dune: Prophecy presents a unique vision of a sci-fi universe that is distinctly post-technology, where artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies are completely banned. However, this doesn’t imply that such technologies are entirely absent; instead, it shapes a specific style of world-building that sets it apart from traditional sci-fi narratives.
Emily Watson, who portrays Valya Harkonnen, the leader of the Bene Gesserit, humorously told Vulture that anyone in the audience pulling out a smartphone would face dire consequences from the Bene Gesserit.
Drawing from the novel Sisterhood of Dune, the upcoming series will depict the ascent of the Bene Gesserit long before Paul Atreides (played by Timothee Chalamet) comes into the picture. The official logline reads, “Dune: Prophecy follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit. Dune: Prophecy is inspired by the novel Sisterhood of Dune, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson."
This series is co-produced by HBO and Legendary Television, with Alison Schapker serving as the showrunner and executive producer. Diane Ademu-John also played a key role in developing the series and is an executive producer. The remarkable cast features Watson as Valya Harkonnen, Olivia Williams as Tula Harkonnen, Mark Strong as Emperor Javicco Corrion, Josh Heuston as Constantine Corrino, Chris Mason as Keiran Atreides, Jodhi May as Empress Natalya, and Sara-Sofie Bousinna as Princess Ynez. The show will consist of six episodes, with a new one releasing every Sunday.
