Director Shahi Kabir’s tentatively titled film Production No 1, starring actors Roshan Mathew and Dileesh Pothan’s shooting commenced on August 25. A photograph related to this film’s opening ceremony is circulating on social media. Rathish Ambat, Renjith EVM and Jojo Jose are producing this film under the Festival Cinemas banner. Roshan Mathew has shared the Production No 1’s first look on Instagram. Manesh Madhavan is the director of photography for this film, while Anil Johnson has scored the music. Vinayak Sasikumar has penned the lyrics for the songs.
As per reports, Production No 1 is touted to be a drama-thriller and will be completed in a single schedule in Iritty, Kannur District, Kerala. The film also stars Rajesh Madhavan, Sudhi Koppa, Arun Cherukavil, Lakshmi Menon, Krisha Kurup, Nandhan Unni and others.
Shahi was earlier a police officer in the Kerala police department. He made his debut in the entertainment industry with the film Thondi Muthalum Driksakshiyum as Dileesh Pothan’s assistant director. Shahi wrote and directed the 2015 short film In Glorious Life, which comprised other police officers both in front of and behind the camera. In 2018, he wrote the story, screenplay and dialogue for the film Joseph directed by M Padmakumar. Later, he penned screenplays and dialogues for the films Naayat, Aravam and Writer. Then he became an independent director with the Malayalam film Elaveezhapoonchira.
Shahi bagged the second Kishore Kumar Award for Best Debut Director for Elaveezhapoonchira. This film is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Janachitra Film Society instituted this award in memory of Kishore Kumar, who was a film society organiser and cultural activist. The 45-year director received the award from poet and lyricist Rafeeq Ahmed. Shahi got the award at the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival in Triprayar on Sunday, February 12, 2023. The award consists of Rs 25,000, a sculpture designed by TP Premji and a citation. A jury consisting of director Sajin Babu, poet and screenwriter PN Gopikrishnan and Sister Jesme selected the winner.
