This Madhuri Dixit song was deemed too obscene and was banned from radio and TV.

Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit-starrer, Khal Nayak, became one of the biggest films of the year when it was released in 1993. The song, Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai, created a stir in the industry and the country for its suggestive lyrics. Naturally, certain organisations felt offended and this song was reportedly banned on radio and TV channels.

Filmed on the top Bollywood diva of the 90s Madhuri Dixit, Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai became an instant hit upon its release. However, around 32 parties and organisations openly criticised the song, expressing their disdain. It was even banned from airing on All India Radio and the Doordarshan channel for being too “obscene.” As per the reports, despite being embroiled in a lot of controversies, the single sold more than 1 crore cassettes in its first release week. Becoming a record sales week for an album.

The video featured Madhuri sensually dancing to the vocals of Alka Yagnik and Ila Arun. The dance was choreographed by the legendary late choreographer, Saroj Khan. The lyrics were penned by Anand Bakshi while the music composers were Laxmikant-Pyarelal. It is believed that this song is one of the main reasons for Khal Nayak to become a superhit while propelling Madhuri Dixit to overnight stardom.

The cast of the film includes Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Jackie Shroff, Anupam Kher, Rakhee Gulzar and more. It is produced by Subhash Ghai under the banner of Mukta Arts Ltd. The cinematography was handled by Ashok Mehta while the editors were Waman Bhonsle and Gurudutt Shirali.
