Director Tamizharasan Pachamuthu’s Tamil film Lubber Pandhu is receiving an overwhelming response, particularly from Malayalam audiences, who are crediting actress Swasika Vijay for her stellar performance. On Tuesday, September 24, a special screening of the film was organized in Kochi, attended by popular Malayalam celebrities like Vinay Fort, Bala, Sshivada, Tharun Moorthy, Dinesh Panicker, and more.
Swasika, who plays the lead role in the movie, expressed her joy while speaking to the media. She shared her excitement about the praise she’s receiving, particularly from the Kerala crowd and critics. Swasika mentioned that it was a dream come true for her to receive such recognition. Fellow actors Manju Pillai and Ananya, who also attended the screening, lauded her performance and said they were thrilled to see Swasika take on a lead role in a Tamil film.
Swasika Vijay is a familiar face in Malayalam cinema, having appeared in films like Nunakkuzhi and DNA. Her performance in the 2019 film Vasanthi earned her the Kerala State Film Award for Best Character Actress. However, her portrayal in Lubber Pandhu has been described as her best performance to date.
Lubber Pandhu was officially announced in March 2023 and released worldwide on September 20. In addition to Swasika, the film stars Attakathi Dinesh, Harish Kalyan, and Sanjay Krishnamoorthy in lead roles. The story revolves around local cricket matches in rural Tamil Nadu, and Swasika plays Yashodha, the wife of one of the lead characters, Gethu. The film also addresses caste discrimination prevalent in local cricket clubs, adding a social commentary to the sports drama.
The movie’s music is composed by Sean Roldan, with cinematography by Dinesh Purushothaman and editing by Madan Ganesh. Lubber Pandhu is not only being praised for its strong performances but also for its thought-provoking storyline, gaining attention from both Tamil and Malayalam audiences.
