Celebrities are infamous for being late to events and movie sets, especially some top names in the industry. However, there are three names in the industry, arguably some of the biggest names, who are praised for being always on time.
These superstars are Amitabh Bachchan, Dev Anand and Amol Palekar. In an old media interaction, Amol Palekar himself named the other stars as the top personalities, who were always on time on the sets of their films.
The Gol Maal actor revealed in the interview with Rajshri Unplugged that only three people were always on time for work and he was the most junior among them. He added, “First was Dev Anand, if he was required at 9 am, he would be there sharp at 9. Second was Amitabh Bachchan, on the dot every time, anywhere. Third was me.”
Speaking further, he recalled the time when he was shooting at the same studio as Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth. He said that Amitabh was sharp on time while Rajinikanth came even earlier. The South cinema superstar sat there with the spot boys and light boys, just talking and having tea with them, Amol Palekar added. If the shift started at 9, the superstar went to the director at that exact time to say, “Yes sir, I am ready,” revealed the actor.
Amol Palekar shared that there was a time in the industry when being late was associated with stardom. According to him, it became a trend in Bollywood; the bigger the actor, he would be as late or the one who comes late is the bigger celebrity. The actor found the behaviour to be “extremely unprofessional”. Mentioning South Indian cinema he stated, “All these wrong trends were not there in the South film industries.”
As someone who has worked in the regional cinema, Amol Palekar said that they are very professional and “well equipped”. He added, “They are all very humble, very nice people to work with. I used to enjoy working there.”
