Actresses like Rashmika Mandanna, Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, and many others have recently fallen prey to the deep fake videos that surfaced on the internet. Several people have talked about this issue openly and how Artificial Intelligence is affecting our privacy. Though AI technology has numerous benefits, it also poses a substantial threat to a person’s personal life and privacy. One such threat is the creation of deep fake pictures and videos that often go viral on the Internet sparking multiple controversies. Kannada Actress Vaishnavi Gowda recently fell victim to such similar deep fake pictures that sparked a significant stir.
In 2023, Vaishnavi Gowda attended an award function that was reportedly organised by some television network. At the event, she wore a red gown. She shared the photos of the event on her social media handles. Those photos were later maliciously edited by some unknown people and created some deep fake explicit images with the help of Artificial Intelligence. The edited pictures were widely shared on the internet.
Adding to it, the perpetrators created a fake Facebook account using the name of the actress and posted the edited pictures using the fake account. As the edited photos were posted from an account with the name of Vaishnavi Gowda many of her fans believed that she posted the pictures. Several fans of the Kannafa actress stated that some people have done this act deliberately to tarnish the image of the actress.
Her fans expressed their anger and demanded that the perpetrators should be identified and arrested immediately. The Central Government earlier warned such people who are using other’s pictures and videos and creating such obscene that some new laws will be introduced soon to control such crimes. An official complaint has been registered with the Bengaluru Cyber Crime Police who has started a probe to hunt down the people who are responsible for morphing Vaishnavi Gowda’s photos and explicitly depicting them.
