Bollywood actor and filmmaker Aamir Khan has recently been targeted by a deepfake video, where he appears in a fake political advertisement related to an upcoming election and a specific political party.
Aamir Khan’s official spokesperson has called the video fake and set records straight. “We want to clarify that Mr. Aamir Khan has never endorsed any political party throughout his 35-year career. He has dedicated his efforts to raising public awareness through Election Commission public awareness campaigns for many past elections. We are alarmed by the recent viral video alleging that Aamir Khan is promoting a particular political party. He would like to clarify that this is a fake video and totally untrue. He has reported the matter to various authorities related to this issue, including filing an FIR with the Cyber Crime Cell of the Mumbai Police. Mr. Khan would like to urge all Indians to come out and vote and be an active part of our electoral process,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Aamir Khan is all set to make his comeback with RS Prasanna’s Sitaare Zameen Par and Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore: 1947. While the actor will be starring opposite Genelia D’Souza in the former, he would be producing his maiden collaboration in the latter that’ll see Sunny Deol in the lead. A recent report claims that both the projects will kick off from February.
In an earlier interview, during the promotions of Laapataa Ladies, Aamir had spoke about Sitaare Zameen Par and said, “I have started shooting for my new film, Sitaare Zameen Par from February 1. It is the next level of Taare Zameen Par, it is like part 2. It is not the same story and the characters are also not the same. The theme is the same but the difference is, unlike Taare Zameen Par, which left you with tears, Sitaare Zameen Par will leave in laughter. Prasanna is directing it and it is an entertaining film. We are looking at the same topic but with a different perspective.”
