'Aamir Khan Messaged Me, Congratulated Everyone': Kiran Rao 'Excited' As Laapataa Ladies Eyes Oscar Nomination
Kiran Rao has thanked her team for their dedication and the audience for their love.

Kiran Rao is elated as her film, Laapataa Ladies has been selected as India’s entry for Oscars 2025. The film is eyeing a nomination in the Best Foreign Film category. Kiran Rao has exclusively told CNN-News18 that she wants to spread more awareness about the film so a larger section of the audience can watch it.

Kiran Rao told CNN-News18, “I am extremely happy. We all were excited when we got the news. We would want to spread awareness and want more and more people to watch this. This movie has a message for people of all ages. I would like to thank the people.”

She mentioned that Aamir Khan, who is her former husband and has also backed the film, reached out to her when the news first broke. “Aamir Khan messaged me and congratulated everyone once this news came in.” Kiran also thanked her team and the viewers and said, “We would like to thank our team for the efforts they put in and the audience for the love they have given us.”

In a previous statement to the press, Kiran also expressed her gratitude towards the selection committee, Aamir Khan Productions and Jio Studios for helping her dream come true. The statement read, “This recognition is a testament to the tireless work of my entire team, whose dedication and passion brought this story to life… I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the selection committee and to everyone who believed in this film.”

“My deepest thanks go to Aamir Khan Productions and Jio Studios for their unwavering support and faith in this vision. It has been a privilege to work alongside such a passionate and talented team of professionals who shared my commitment to telling this story.​ I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire cast and crew, whose immense talent, dedication, and hard work made this film possible,” the statement also read.

Laapataa Ladies stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan. Laapataa Ladies takes viewers back to rural India in 2001. Its narrative revolves around two brides who get exchanged during a train journey. The journey filled with twists and turns begins as their husbands start searching for the real bride.

Kiran Rao’s film was one of the 29 films submitted for Oscars consideration this year. The list included Ranbir Kapoor-Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal and Prabhas-Amitabh Bachchan starrer Kalki 2898 AD. It has also been revealed that Chhota Bheem and the Curse of Damyaan was in the running.
