Lufthansa Unveils New Business Class Cabin With Seats That Can Extend Into Beds

Germany's flagship carrier Lufthansa has unveiled a new business class cabin that will feature seats that can extend into a bed or expand desk space -- and be controlled using personal devices.

Set to roll out in 2020 on board the Boeing 777-9, the new seats can be stretched out into a bed at a length of up to 220 cm (87 inches), with a special back rest that allows the shoulder to sink into the cushion for passengers who like to sleep on their side.

When they're not sleeping, the seats have been designed to offer twice as much desk space as the norm, while the seat configuration itself has been designed so that all passengers in business class will have access to the aisle.

New digital interfaces mean that flyers will be able to control the seat function and in-flight entertainment system using their personal device.

Lufthansa is the latest airline to unveil new, updated, modernized cabin features.

Some of the buzziest new launches include Singapore Airlines and its new private apartments which feature reclining swivel chairs, full-sized closets and full-flat double beds.

Earlier this month Emirates also unveiled a redesign of their Boeing 777, with Mercedes-Benz-designed private suites and "zero-gravity" leather seats that use NASA-inspired technology to impart a feeling of weightlessness.
