5 Healthy Habits To Keep Dehydration At Bay
Dehydration can make you feel fatigued and light-headed.

During the change in season or weather, we tend to drink less water which leads to dehydration. Dehydration occurs when your body loses more fluids than it takes in. This causes an imbalance that can affect your health and well-being. Hence, it is crucial to prioritise hydration.

A few common signs of dehydration are –

– You will feel thirsty frequently. This is your body’s way of signalling that it needs water.

– The inside of your mouth will feel parched.

– You may feel fatigued or dizzy because of the lack of hydration.

– Dehydration can also trigger headaches or migraines due to reduced blood and oxygen flow to the brain.

– Dry and itchy skin and lips can also be another symptom.

Here are a few habits to inculcate in your life to make sure you never dehydrated –

– Drink water at regular intervals

Every time you feel thirsty, drink water. Do not ignore your thirst as it can become a problem later on. As per the Institute of Medicine (IOM), men must drink 3.7 litres of water per day, while women must drink 2.7 litres of water every day.

– Drink water as soon as you wake up

Every morning, as soon as you wake up, make sure to drink a glass of water before you begin the day. This will help in flushing out all the toxins from the body and will provide instant hydration to the body.

– Drink water when you notice a dry mouth

If you are facing the problem of dry mouth or feeling parched, your body might indicate that it needs water. Keep sipping on water or eat cucumbers.

– Increase water intake if working out

If you are working out or doing exercise which is causing you to sweat a lot, it means you’re losing a lot of water from the body. Increase your water intake for the day, if you’re engaged in exercises. You can also carry a water bottle with you during your workout and make sure to drink it all up.

– ORS packet

If you are feeling low energy and drinking, adequate water is not helping, then you can add a packet of ORS to your water. The salt and sugar in it will prevent dehydration and instantly energise you.

If you’re not a fan of sipping water throughout the day, you can consider making detox water by adding a few slices of cucumber, lemons, grapes, watermelon, mint or basil to slightly change the taste.
