Yes, on the lines of the revolutionary Che Guevara T-shirts which are a hot favourite among the Gen-X, now T-shirts with images of Mahatma Gandhi are becoming popular with the youth. Interestingly, foreign tourists who visit Kerala are equally fond of the Gandhiji T-shirts. “The majority of tourists who came in search of the Gandhiji T-shirt are foreigners. But our youth who are still on a rebellious path seek Che T-shirts,” said P Y Siraj of Casino - the Mens Shop near Saritha Theatre.Bappuji is the latest addition to this imported new-generation T shirts, which are priced between `375 and `429. “Earlier T-shirts spotted images of celebrities, mostly singers and music bands - icons such as Bob Marley and Kurt Donald Cobain and music bands including Metalica and Guns & Roses, the hot favourite being Marley. Later, Che become the fashion emblem of the youth,” he added.Siraj said Che not only found a place on T-shirts, but also on mugs, lighters, key chains, wallets and bandannas. “Now the Thailand company which supplies us T-shirts have sent us a new set with the image of Gandhiji. The first set has almost been sold out and we are waiting for the next set,” he added.The unique T-shirts showcase the photograph of Gandhiji on the front and his quotes imprinted on the back. One of his famous quotations, “An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind, glares out from one of the T-shirts. It is not just the images of revolutionaries which join the merchandising frenzy, but also of this silent warrior who guided the entire nation to the light of freedom through ‘Ahimsa’.
