Watch: Telangana Police's Heartfelt Farewell To Dog Who Retired After11 Years Of Service

The Adilabad District Police Headquarters in Telangana hosted a retirement ceremony for Tara, a loyal member of the lK9 Unit, on Tuesday. Tara is a Labrador Retriever, known for her expertise in detecting explosives. She retired after 11 years of distinguished service. The video of the ceremony was shared on X and captioned: “Retirement ceremony of Tara, a member of Adilabad’s dog squad and an expert in detecting explosives. She belongs to the Labrador Retriever family and served the dept for 11 years. #Telangana #PoliceDog #K9Unit @TOIHyderabad @adilabad_sp @TelanganaDGP @revan”.

In the video from the event, Tara is first seen being draped with a marigold garland, making the assembled policemen cheer. A scarf was placed around her in honour of her service. As several scarves and garlands were put up, the police team clapped and cheered for Tara. She basked in the admiration and enjoyed the fond send off.

Tara reportedly played a major role in maintaining security during her career by detecting dangerous materials like RDX, TNT, PEK, Cordex and various types of ammunition. Her keen senses and dedication were crucial in averting potential threats, especially during high-profile events and VIP visits.

The ceremony was also attended by Police Commissioner Gaush Alam, who honoured Tara with flowers and acknowledged her invaluable services to the police force. Tara’s caregiver Somanna highlighted their close bond and their mutual achievements in keeping the district safe.

Last week, the Chittoor District Armed Reserve Police held a ceremony on Tuesday to honour police dog Bindu, who has served the department faithfully for almost eleven years.
