CHENNAI/KUMILI: Toughening its posture on the Mullaiperiyar dam issue, Jayalalithaa government on Sunday convened a special Assembly session on December 15 to assert its right on the Mullaiperiyar dam issue as tension rose on the border.Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, announcing the session, asserted that the State would not give up its rights over the dam due to “imaginary threats” on its safety raised by Kerala. Requesting the people of the state not to get carried away emotionally, she said, “Let us show the world that we do not believe in violence and hatred.” “Neither my people nor I and my government have anything against the people of Kerala or their government... Therefore, destroying their properties or causing injury to them and in the process also causing ourselves pain and hardship is not a solution.”Jayalalithaa said her government believes that the solution to this problem lies in presenting sound technical and scientific data to the Supreme Court and in convincing the court about the justness of Tamil Nadu’s stand.
