BARIPADA: Helping the Excise sleuths cost a man dear as an irate mob tonsured his head and urinated on his face in Dharkadihi village under Chandua police limits in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday evening. The villagers detained the Excise officials for a couple of hours till police rescued them. Sources said the incident occurred when the Excise officials were conducting raids on illegal liquor dens in the village ahead of the last leg of panchayat poll on Sunday. SDPO Sudhakar Jena said a team of Excise officials led by Excise Superintendent Sriharsa Pradhan had gone to the village.They were accompanied by Sanjay Kumar Sejpada of Anlakuda village who happens to be the owner of a registered liquor outlet. “The Excise officials took the help of Sejapada to trace out the illegal liquor dens. When the officials started destroying the liquor outlets, hundreds of villagers gheraoed them,” he said. Police said they held Sejapada responsible for the raid. The villagers beat him up and tied him to a pole before tonsuring his head. A few villagers also urinated on his face in public glare. Receiving information, police rescued him.
