In an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN, playwright Girish Karnad said he was misquoted and never said that he wanted the Kempe Gowda airport in Bengaluru to be renamed after Tipu. Karnad said Tipu Sultan never got his due as he was a Muslim king. He said that if Tipu Sultan was not a Muslim, he would have the same status as Shivaji.
