VELLORE: Tension prevailed at the Vellore new bus stand on Sunday after a clash between the DMDK and Congress auto drivers over a flag post. DMDK Thozhirsangam had scheduled a flag hoisting programme on Sunday at the Vellore new bus stand.Accordingly, when the DMDK auto drivers gathered at the bus stand and started digging to erect a flag post, over 50 members of the Rajiv Gandhi Auto Drivers Association objected to it. The conversation between the groups became a heated debate and resulted in a conflict. DMDK banners were reportedly torn. Vellore DSP Radhakrishnan, Vellore North police Inspector Sardar and Vellore South Inspector Annadurai rushed to the spot. The cops pacified the two groups and held talks with them. DMDK district secretary Viswanathan said, “many parties have erected a flag post at the bus stand without prior permission. But the police are asking our partymen to get permission and then erect a post. So, all the flag posts at the bus stand should be removed”.The police assured the agitated members that appropriate decision will be taken regarding putting up of flag post after consulting the officials concerned.Following the clash, police were deployed at the spot to avoid further conflicts.
