Haridwar: More than 73,000 pilgrims are stranded in various parts of Uttarakhand as there is no respite from the flooding in rain ravaged state. People who have left stranded in various parts of the hilly states are waiting for the rescue team.
"Anything could have happened to me in the devastating floods. I feel fortunate that I've been saved by ITBP, they have rescued many other stranded pilgrims," said a pilgrim.
"Arrangements should be made to airlift us. We have been stranded for over five days now," another pilgrim added.
Due to monsoon mayhem, place like Badrinath have been completely cut off. Several pilgrims have had near-death experience. "The situation is really bad. Thousands were swept away and shops have been washed away. There is neck- deep water," said a pilgrim, who survived the floods.
Kedarnath and Rudraprayag have been the worst affected regions by the monsoon. It has been a massive challenge for the state administration to rescue the people.
"There have been a lot of deaths and many are still trapped. We are doing all that we can. People must stay where they are and follow the instructions given by the government," a person said.
As more and more pictures emerge of flooding and collapsed buildings, people remain stranded - some on small tracts of land which are still holding. The army and the Air Force have mounted rescue operation after rescue operation to control the situation and save the stranded pilgrims.
