Islamabad: At least six people were killed and eight injured Sunday when a US missile hit a house in Pakistan's tribal region along the Afghan border, officials said.
A single missile hit a house in Tapi village, some 15 km east of Miranshah, the main town in the district of North Waziristan, a security official said.
The official, requesting anonymity, said six people, including two women, died in the attack. A US drone was seen flying in the area after the explosion.
The house, which was completely demolished by the strike, belonged to Raees Khan, a member of the local Taliban organisation and a suspected facilitator of Al Qaeda operatives.
"According to initial reports at least two foreign militants are among the dead," the security official said. Eight more people were injured in the blast.
It was the third US missile strike in the last two weeks in Pakistan's tribal areas, which are known sanctuaries of Taliban and Al Qaeda fighters launching cross border attacks on US-led international forces in Afghanistan.
Four people, including two foreign fighters of Arab origin, died Saturday in a similar missile attack in neighbouring Waziristan.
Seven were killed Aug 20 when two missiles fired from a US drone destroyed a compound used by suspected Al Qaeda members.
