A man from Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district has been arrested for allegedly killing his 22-year old niece, with whom he was involved in an extramarital affair, after she decided to get married to someone else.
The accused, identified as Manikant Dwivedi disposed of his niece’s body in an under construction building after murdering her and also threw her mobile phone in a bus in order to mislead the police.
The cops said that the victim, Mansi Pandey went to her aunt, Manikant’s wife’s home on the occassion of Raksha Bandhan and after she did not return from there, her father registered a police complaint against Manikant. The woman’s father accused Manikant of taking his daughter away and following this he was taken into police custody where cops started questioning him
During the questioning, the accused confessed to having an affair with Mansi for over two years. In connection to the matter, District Police Chief Neeraj Kumar Jadaun told NDTV, “Recently, Mansi told him that she wants to marry someone else. This infuriated Manikant and he choked her to death.”
Police further revealed that the woman’s body was recovered from an under construction building and has been sent for post-mortem. Speaking on the incident, another cop revealed that, in an attempt to mislead the cops, the accused threw Mansi’s phone in a moving bus.
As per media reports, the victim’s father, Ramsagar Pandey, had dropped her at Manikant’s home around 3 pm on Monday. The father claimed, “We went to our native village, then I went on Lucknow. On Wednesday, he (Manikant) called me and said Mansi is missing and her phone is switched off. He told me that Mansi has eloped, but I suspected him and filed a complaint.”
The victim’s father further revealed that Mansi’s wedding was supposed to take place on November 27. “He (Manikant) did not want that to happen and had been asking her not to get married,” the father added.
