Demand-supply gap comes down to 38 million units

The power supply situation in the state has eased with a fall in demand and improvement in the hydro-electricity generation.

The power deficit, which was at a peak of 69 million units (MU) on August 26, came down just to 38 MU on Wednesday. While the demand for power decreased from 271 MU on August 26 to 238 MU on September 5, the daily hydel generation went up to 10 MU thanks to good inflows of water to the Srisailam reservoir.

The generation was 2.28 MU at Srisailam and 2.65 MU (up from 0.22 MU) at Priyadarshini Jurala but production at Nagarjuna Sagar is yet to resume for want of sufficient water level. The total hydel generation in the first four days of September was 30.90 MU and the single day’s production on Tuesday was 10.04 MU.

The energy demand on Wednesday was 238 MU and the power utility managed to supply 200 MU. With the Srisailam reservoir receiving huge inflows, power generation there may pick up in the coming days. The inflow, 40,000 cusecs in the morning, increased to more than one lakh cusecs by evening.
