Union ministers Namo Narain Meena and Jitendra Singh were among 18 candidates who filed their nomination papers on Wednesday for Rajasthan's five Lok Sabha seats where polling will be held on April 24.
Union Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain Meena (Congress), his younger brother and former DGP H C Meena (BJP), and National People's Party (NPP) MLA Kirori Lal Meena filed their nominations from the Dausa parliamentary constituency, an election office spokesman said.
The NPP leader was the winner from Dausa in 2009 polls, but after he won the Assembly election in 2013 he resigned from his Lok Sabha membership.
Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports and Congress candidate from the Alwar Lok Sabha seat Jitendra Singh also filed his nomination papers on Wednesday.
Singh is pitted against BJP candidate Mahant Chand Nath whom he had defeated in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from the seat.
BJP's Bahadur Singh and Sukhabir Singh Jaunpuria filed their papers from Bharatpur and Tonk-Sawaimadhopur Lok Sabha seats respectively.
Since March 29, when the filing of nominations began, 26 candidates have filed their papers so far for the five seats.
The last date of filing of nominations is April 5 while scrutiny of papers will be held on April 7, and withdrawal of papers would be allowed till April 9.
