Police have arrested the alleged rapists — identified as 27-year-old M Arjunan, a scrap merchant of Bharathi Road in Ram Nagar in Coimbatore, and 22-year-old A Pandian, a rag picker hailing from Aruppukkottai in central Tamil Nadu. They were picked up after a passerby alerted the police.Preliminary investigations revealed that Arjunan had spotted the mentally challenged woman, aged around 30 years, near his shop on Saturday evening. After noticing that she was of unstable mind, Arjunan convinced her to ride pillion on his motorcycle promising to drop her at the Gandhipuram bus stand.
