HYDERABAD: With the TRS and BJP more or less deciding to contest the by-elections on their own, the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (TJAC) is worried about bringing political unity in the  region. The BJP and the TRS are the main political constituents of TJAC. The leadership of TJAC plans to convene a special meeting to discuss by-elections and bring unity in TJAC. Without consulting the joint action committee, the two parties have taken independent decisions and are even preparing to launch election campaign, putting a big question mark over the very existence of TJAC.    The TRS leadership wants to build a Telangana political force without taking help of BJP or any other political party and is determined to become an alternative to the Congress and Telugu Desam in the region. With this goal in mind, the TRS has declared its candidates for five Assembly constituencies and decided to support Nagam Janardhan Reddy in Nagarkurnool. On the other side, the BJP state and central leaderships are upset with TRS’ attitude. The national party suspects that the separatist party is encroaching into its base with the help of the Congress and TDP. The party believes that only the NDA has a clear-cut policy on Telangana and yet the TRS is not supporting it. BJP national leaders and state president G Kishan Reddy have toured the region time and again but, curiously, the TRS has kept a distance from the major partner of NDA. Thinking that enough is enough, the BJP has decided to put a check on the TRS. If it fails to do so, it fears, its own base in the region may shrink. The by-elections have given it an opportunity to project itself as a party genuinely disposed towards granting statehood to Telangana if NDA is elected to power at the Centre. The party also wants to play a major role in the reconstruction and development of a separate Telangana state. Hence the decision to contest the polls. Talking with Express, TJAC chairman M Kodandaram claimed that there was no threat to Telangana political unity in spite of the differences between the TRS and the BJP. “All the constituents of TJAC are united and will sort out differences, if any, by holdings talks,’’ he said.
