New Delhi: England opener Marcus Trescothick has finally broken his silence over his early departure from England's tour of India.
Trescothik says he had to go home because of a viral problem and the fatigue due to non-stop international cricket.
In February, the opening batsman had flown back from India before the three-Test series.
England coach Duncan Fletcher had indicated at that time that Trescothik had left because of personal reasons, although the reasons were not disclosed. Fletcher had also at that time said that it was important to resspect a player's privacy.
Trescothick claimed that he had picked up the bug in Mumbai and by the time the team reached Baroda, it had really taken its toll.
However, what is still a mystery is why was something so harmless such as a viral not revealed to the media earlier.
The story does not corroborate with the fact that Trescothick, who was captained against the President's XI at Baroda and who made 18 of 32 deliveries , left after tea in a hurry and 'in tears'.
Also the viral was not mentioned in the team doctor's daily bulletin, unlike the illnesses suffered by Paul Collingwood and Shaun Udal, which were clearly spelt out as was the Michael Vaughan's injury.
Just two months earlier, Trescothick had chosen to stay on in Pakistan despite the fact that his father-in-law had suffered a near-fatal fall.
