TIRUCHY: The Rock City, which is an emerging hub for higher education in Tamil Nadu, now adds another feather to its cap, as the Indian Institute of Management was inaugurated here on Wednesday. The IIM-T was inaugurated by Gopal Vittal, Executive Director, Hindustan Unilever Limited, here on the NIT campus.A total of 88 students including 73 boys and 15 girls whose average CAT score was 94.69 per cent (medium 98.62 per cent), were enrolled for the first batch of the Post-Graduate Programme (PGP), at the IIM-T for the academic year 2011-2013.The teaching faculty consists of 12 members. Three more would join the team soon. All of them are from leading international institutions from the US, Europe, IIMs and IITs.According to sources, the total course fee for two years sum up to ` ten lakh and the students can pay their fees in six installments. Around `1,50,000 is paid as the first semester fee with additional deposit of ` 25,000. The older IIMs charge `13 - 16 lakh. Whereas the new IIMs, IIM-Rohtak, IIM-Ranchi and IIM-Raipur, charge around `9 lakh. Speaking on the occasion, Prafulla Agnihotri, Director, IIM-T, said, the chief guest, Gopla Vittal who was initially delivering lectures on finance and marketing, would soon create a replica at the IIM-T. He assured the students that necessary steps would be initiated by the month of September for campus recruitment, joint training, joint coaching, knowledge exchange and sponsorship to a few meritorious students to fly abroad to present papers and other academic purposes.The inauguration was followed by saplings plantation. The IIM-T logo and website were also inaugurated on the same day. Gopal Vittal inaugurated the logo and M Damodaran, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM-T, inaugurated the website.
